Milk kefir and fresh peaches

How to make a refreshing drink with homemade milk and kefir cultures. 

This is one of the easiest and most rewarding ways to have a probiotic drink you can have.

With refreshing in season peaches and prepared milk kefir you have a lovely summertime refreshment.

There are many places to order your kefir cultures.  I found mine through an internet site and they were very good to order from.  My cultures arrived seamlessly and in 24 hours I had my first of many kefir smoothie.  I loved it.

Sour Dough Bread

Here is my attempt at making sour dough whole wheat bread today.  It is a recipe that comes from bernd's bakery blog.  I have been following the Wild Yeast blog that is full of recipes and information on how to make the most delicious food.  Bernd's bakery had a link from a recipe he submitted and I found his recipe easy to follow.  I love sour dough and hope to find time to bake many more wholesome and good for you foods.  If you love the taste of sour dough then give the yeast starter a try.  It is a bit tedious as first and I know anyone can make it if I can.  Good Eating.  Jim

Spring is here


This is our garden this Spring.  We have had boatloads of strawberries and four varieties of lettuce to start the Spring.  The strawberries were planted last Spring and I deflowered all the plants through the season so they would get a good start growing a root system and now we have delicious berries everywhere.  The lettuce is romaine, bib, red and green leaf with some mesclun mix thrown in.  Very good and of course all organic makes it all taste so delicious.  The asparagus has given up some great tasting goodness that we have enjoyed as well.  Then there is cilantro, parsley, and a first for me has been the rhubarb that finally survived our hot humid summers to give us some wonderful rhubarb pie.  Whoa that was amazing!  The black raspberry bushes are producing and the birds have had there fill with them.  Next year I will net the plants so we can have berries to make jam.  Tomatoes are planted along with some pepper plants that are all doing well with all the goat manure trucked in.  Green beans, cucumbers, watermelon, lima beans, sunflowers, marigolds and one eggplant are what is left.  Oh, I forgot about the onions and dill.  That's about it.  The Spring has been great so far with plenty of rain and sun to get everything of to a good start.  Now time to keep the weeds and suckers pulled the bugs squashed and enjoy a great harvest Lord willing.

Work Man Work

OK I have officially returned to the grind.  Off for 4 months due to injury and happy to say all is going well.  The injury caused by playing soccer when I am much to out of shape for such as that, has left me with a new acl in the right leg.  It was a long process of therapy but now it is ready for the work I do which is climbing ladders and sweeping chimneys.  I have no regrets that I did what I did and am actually thankful to have come across so many wonderful caregivers along the way.  I think the world of everyone of them and am so blessed to have met each and everyone of them.  God is good.

Not gardening just living




Today I am in Florida surrounded by sand and sun.  The last few days we (my wife and I) have been taking a few days to recharge our batteries taking walks along the beach and swimming.  The area we choose to stay at is between Destin and Panama City.  The beaches are white as snow and the water is very clear.  There is good seafood at many of the diners close by.  We don't come here often because it can be expensive since we want to be on the beach with the sound of the waves close by.  I have a few pictures to show what the area is like where we are staying.

I'm fired up about my new oven

This is my newly built wood fired oven.  It has been a long time in the makings and I am soooo glad to have it.  We had pizza the first time it was used and it was fantastic.  I will roast, bake and barbecue for many meals to come.
